GreenGeeks Bets $4.95 Node.js Hosting on AI Apps
GreenGeeks put Node.js on Pro and Premium plans at $4.95 a month, betting AI-built apps will live on cPanel instead of a VPS.
GreenGeeks opened managed Node.js hosting on October 14, 2026, putting supported apps on Pro and Premium plans from $4.95 a month on a 12-month term. The pitch is blunt: ship a web app, API, or AI-built project without renting and patching your own VPS.
The wager underneath that pitch is narrower. GreenGeeks wants the people leaving Cursor and Claude with a real repo, and it wants them on the same cPanel account that already runs their sites.
Node.js Lands on GreenGeeks Pro and Premium
The product sits on the company’s shared platform, not on a new cloud SKU. Lite still hosts one site and does not include Node.js. Pro and Premium do, and they keep the rest of the shared stack: NVMe storage, free SSL, Git, SSH, SFTP, MySQL, automated backups, security monitoring, and 24/7 help for the hosting platform.
GreenGeeks has sold eco-branded cPanel hosting since 2008 and now lists 55,000+ customers. It matches power use at 300% through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, has been an EPA Green Power Partner since 2009 (the site calls that 17+ years), and says it has planted 50,000+ trees with One Tree Planted. That is not new. The new work is commercial: Node.js is now a named product aimed at apps, not a buried selector.
Kaumil Patel, chief operating officer, tied the launch to AI coding tools that make a working project easy to generate and still leave the last mile to the builder.
Building an application has become dramatically easier, especially with AI-assisted development. Deploying it shouldn’t suddenly become the hard part.
Kaumil Patel, Chief Operating Officer, GreenGeeks
The company’s own Node.js page is more precise than the slogan. GreenGeeks manages the hosting platform. You still own the code, the packages, the config, and the debugging when the process will not start.
The $4.95 Wager on Cursor and Claude
The blog post that went out with the launch names the tools it wants in the funnel: Claude, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, and Lovable. Those products do not produce the same kind of artifact. Prompt-to-app builders often host the project themselves, commonly around $25 a month, with a database and a URL already attached. Coding agents write into a repo you keep. That repo still needs a process that stays up, a database, SSL, and a domain.
That second group is the customer this plan can actually win. A static React export can live on ordinary web space. A persistent Express API cannot. GreenGeeks is betting those APIs, dashboards, and first-version SaaS tools will land on managed Node.js hosting from $4.95 a month rather than on a usage-priced PaaS or a virtual server the buyer has to patch.
WHERE THE AI APPS ARE SUPPOSED TO COME FROM
- Claude and Cursor: Local or in-editor agents that leave you with files, Git history, and a start script you have to run somewhere.
- Codex and Copilot: The same pattern, code you own, no included production host.
- Lovable: A hosted builder first; GreenGeeks only becomes relevant after you export the project and want it on your own account.
The cheaper path a lot of those builders already use is a free frontend host plus a tiny virtual server. A lean API on a few-dollar cloud droplet can run for a long time if the database stays small and nobody is transcoding video. GreenGeeks is not cheaper than that droplet on a three-year view once Pro renews at $18.95 a month. It is selling a control panel, backups, SSL, and the promise that someone else owns the box.
How the App Goes Live
There is no GitHub app that builds on every push. You move code the way a cPanel account always did, then you fill in a Node.js form. The company’s four-step path is the whole product.
FROM EDITOR TO A LIVE APP
- Build locally: Use the editor, framework, or AI tool you already have, then get a start file and a package list that actually run.
- Move the code: Git, SSH, SFTP, or the file manager puts the project in the hosting account.
- Configure the app: Pick a Node.js version, application root, startup file, environment variables, and a MySQL database.
- Point the domain: Attach the name, turn on the included SSL, and start the process from the panel.
On shared plans that selector lives at cPanel, then Software, then NodeJS, then Create Application. GreenGeeks’ VPS path is different: staff can help install the OS packages first, after which you still create the app in the panel, and the host points those users at the cPanel Node.js application setup steps. In both cases a process manager sits in front of your app so you never open a public port yourself. That is the old Passenger pattern, not a new runtime.
GreenGeeks Will Not Configure Your App
This is the clause that decides whether Patel’s line holds. The support article that still walks through Create Application is explicit, and it has been the public rule since 2023, long before the October product name.
We make the NodeJS environment available, but we cannot assist with the configuration, debugging, or deployment of NodeJS applications.
GreenGeeks Support, How to Create a NodeJS APP in cPanel
Staff cannot assist with configuration or debugging. If npm install fails, if the start file is wrong, or if an AI-generated app assumes Postgres, Redis, or a long-running worker the shared account will not run, the ticket stops at “the environment is there.” Round-the-clock support is real for the platform. It is not an application agency for a vibe-coded repo.
The official account posted the same product on October 5, 2026, nine days before the press release, with the same “skip the VPS” line and almost no follow-up thread around it.

GitHub Auto-Deploy Showed Up 13 Days Earlier
GreenGeeks is not the only shared host making this bet, and it is not first in this round. On October 1, 2026, SiteGround told GrowBig, GoGeek, and Cloud customers they could add Node.js projects beside their sites. Connect a GitHub repo or upload a zip, and SiteGround builds, deploys, and keeps the app running. GrowBig includes 5 projects, GoGeek 10, and Cloud has no fixed cap. Databases there include MySQL and PostgreSQL. The post names Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Windsurf, Lovable, Bolt, v0, and Replit as the work already walking in.
Those GitHub deploys that rebuild on every push match how an agent-built repo actually ships: commit, push, live. GreenGeeks still asks you to move files and press Create Application. Hostinger’s Node.js docs describe Node 18 through 24 with GitHub builds, framework detection from package.json, and an automatic restart if the app crashes. GreenGeeks’ public pages do not list version numbers. They say “multiple Node.js versions” and leave Next.js as a compatibility question.
THE OCTOBER NODE.JS PUSH
- October 1, 2026: SiteGround adds Node.js Projects with GitHub or zip deploys on GrowBig, GoGeek, and Cloud.
- October 5, 2026: GreenGeeks posts that Node.js hosting is available for apps, APIs, backends, and AI-built projects.
- October 14, 2026: GreenGeeks publishes the managed Node.js launch on Pro and Premium from $4.95 a month.
Traditional hosts are crowding the same gap because the AI tools made more Node apps than there are people who want to run systemd. The difference is how much of the build they take off the buyer.
Pro Starts at $4.95 and Renews at $18.95
Node.js is not a separate add-on. It is a feature of two shared plans, sold on the usual 12-month intro rates, with a 30-day money-back window and a 99.9% uptime line. Renewal is the number that matters if the app is still there a year later.
GREENGEEKS SHARED PLANS AND NODE.JS
| Plan | 12-month intro | Renewal | Sites and storage | Node.js |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lite | $2.95 a month | $13.95 a month | 1 site, 25 GB | No |
| Pro | $4.95 a month | $18.95 a month | Unlimited sites, 50 GB | Yes |
| Premium | $8.95 a month | $30.95 a month | Unlimited sites, 100 GB | Yes |
Pro is the door the launch is selling. Premium is the same product with more disk and, in the company’s words, more room for busier APIs. A WordPress site and a Node app can share that one account, which is the practical offer for an agency that already lives in cPanel. Resource caps still apply; GreenGeeks does not publish a visitor ceiling, and a noisy app can starve the other sites on the same plan.
Next.js Needs a Phone Call First
The limits are written in the FAQ on the product page, not in the ads. Static React can be hosted. A persistent Node backend can run “where technically compatible.” Next.js depends on how the project is built. Static exports and some Node setups may work. If you need specific server-side Next.js features, GreenGeeks says to contact the company before you buy. Databases on this product are MySQL. The press tags mentioned PostgreSQL hosting; the Node.js FAQ does not.
WHAT THE NODE.JS PRODUCT WILL NOT PRETEND TO BE
- Not a PaaS: No listed GitHub auto-build, no published build log, no claimed framework detection.
- Not unrestricted Next.js: Confirm SSR and related features before you pay.
- Not app debugging: Platform up, process down is still your problem.
Not Postgres: MySQL is the database the Node.js pages name.
A VPS still exists in the catalog for root access, custom system services, and odd runtimes. Shared Node.js is for supported apps that fit the panel. Existing Pro and Premium customers can open the selector without a new SKU. New buyers get the 30-day window on those same plans, at $4.95 a month on Pro if they prepay a year, then $18.95 a month if they stay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which GreenGeeks Plans Include Node.js Hosting?
Only eligible Pro and Premium shared plans, plus Managed VPS after the OS packages are in place. Lite still has no Node.js, and there is no separate Node.js add-on to bolt onto a Lite account. If you already pay for Pro or Premium, the selector is in cPanel rather than a new checkout.
Does GreenGeeks Node.js Hosting Include PostgreSQL?
No. The Node.js product FAQ names MySQL databases only. If the AI-generated app you exported assumes PostgreSQL, Redis, or another store, you change the app, you add that store somewhere else, or you look at a VPS where you control the stack.
Can I Host Next.js on GreenGeeks?
Sometimes. Static React is supported, and some Next.js setups that run as a Node app may be compatible. GreenGeeks tells buyers who depend on specific Next.js server-side features to ask before purchasing, which is the tell that SSR is not a blanket yes.
Will GreenGeeks Help Me Deploy My Node.js App?
Not on shared Pro and Premium. Staff make the runtime available and will not configure, debug, or deploy the application. On Managed VPS they will help with the initial Node.js packages at the operating-system level, and only a single Node.js version is available on that VPS path.
Do I Need a VPS to Host a Node.js API?
Not for a supported app that fits the shared Node.js form. GreenGeeks still points people to a VPS when they need root, custom system services, or a layout the panel cannot express. SSH is included on supported plans in either case, so the line is control of the OS, not access to a shell.
